Attorneys

Katherine D. Hambley

Kate Hambley is a Maine attorney who specializes in land use matters, advising developers and individuals on various permitting approvals (subdivisions, variances, conditional uses, rezones), shoreland zoning issues, nonconforming uses, ADUs and other infill development, DEP permitting, and procedural and constitutional issues (e.g., takings/inverse condemnation and due process claims).

Experience

Kate began her career as a municipal attorney representing cities in the Seattle area in land use appeals. When she moved back to Maine (her home state), she hung out her shingle as “Landform Law” and began a practice focused on land use and municipal issues. Kate recently moved her practice to Drummond & Drummond, where she continues to advise clients on the permitting process, Rule 80B appeals, NOV and Rule 80K defense, and constitutional issues.

About Kate

Kate was born and raised in Southern Maine (Portland and Falmouth). She attended Oberlin College in Ohio. After working for a strawbale building non-profit in Utah and a construction company in Philadelphia during the Great Recession, she packed her bags for Vermont, where she attended Vermont Law school and later clerked for the Vermont Environmental Court. After a brief stint on the west coast, she moved back to Maine in 2021 for the long haul. Despite her past life as a sea kayak guide and rock climber, Kate is now an avid indoor enthusiast, and she enjoys knitting, sewing, baking, and listening to audiobooks (all with her husband and two kids).
