Horace returned to Maine in 1973 from the Washington, D.C. area after working for the Department of Defense as a civilian and service in the U.S. Army as an officer in the Vietnam conflict. Since he returned to Maine, he and his family have lived in the coastal town of Yarmouth, where he has been active in many community activities including the School Committee, Moderator of the Town Meeting, the Pine Tree Council Boy Scouts of America and the First Parish Congregational Church in Yarmouth. He served as Chairman of the Casco Bay Regional YMCA, a joint effort of the Greater Yarmouth - Freeport area which organized and established a YMCA facility north of Portland, and served as Chairman of the Cumberland County YMCA for several years. Horace was born in the coastal Hancock County Town of Blue Hill, Maine and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1965. Following service in the U.S. Army, he graduated from the University of Maryland Law School in 1973. Professionally, Horace has served for many years in various capacities of the Cumberland Bar Association, including serving as its president in 1996. Horace was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1974 after serving as a law clerk for the firm beginning in October, 1973. He has represented a wide array of business entities, performing work in most areas of corporate law including incorporation, purchase and sale, merger and liquidation. He has also been involved in all areas of banking law with emphasis in commercial transactions from both the lender's and borrower's perspective and complex workouts from both the creditor's and debtor's perspective. Horace has an extensive real estate background, starting by performing title examinations as a law clerk prior to being admitted to practice. He subsequently conducted residential and commercial loan closings of all types for the former Maine National Bank and other institutional and private clients. In recent years, a good portion of his practice has been focused on the negotiation and drafting of commercial leases for such regional retail clients as Olympia Sport Center, Inc. and serving as counsel to nearly two hundred diverse corporate entities. Horace is currently active as a trustee of the Maine Historical Society, in the United Way Annual Campaign, and as a Board Member of the BSA Pine Tree Council.
