Douglas Britton, Partner
Doug graduated from the University of Maine School of Law, cum laude, in 1997 and joined Drummond & Drummond in August 1998 after serving as a law clerk with the Maine Superior Court. While attending law school, Doug served as a Legal Writing Instructor and as Managing Editor of the Ocean & Coastal Law Journal. Doug has written several articles for the Journal respecting issues of ocean and coastal zoning law. Since joining the firm, Doug has also written articles concerning condominium law, and he has presented seminars on the topics of commercial loan closings, real estate law, and condominium law. He has served on the Board of Directors of various community organizations, including the Friends of Casco Bay and the Cleaves Law Library, and is an Adjunct Professor in the legal writing program of the University of Maine School of Law. Most recently, Doug has served on the Maine Regional Committee for the Community Associations Institute, and he is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Scarborough Community Chamber of Commerce. In 2009, Doug completed a training course for New Markets Tax Credit closings through the National Development Council. In 2010, he obtained certification for closing SBA 504 loans by completing a course with the National Association of Development Companies.
Doug became a partner of the firm in January 2004. His practice at Drummond & Drummond focuses on commercial transactions, corporate law, condominium law, and commercial real estate law, including complex land use and zoning matters and the representation of lenders in commercial loan closings. Doug is the supervising partner of the law firm's corporate department and practice serving approximately 600 corporate and business clients.
Doug and his family reside in Scarborough, Maine. An avid soccer player, cyclist, and runner, he has completed several marathons including the 2009 Bank of America Chicago and the 2011 Boston Marathon.
